AI Solution Architect to Shape the Future of Retail Technology
Join Salling Group Tech Innovation as an AI Solution Architect and help turn AI opportunities into reliable solutions that create measurable value across retail operations, decision-making, and customer experiences.
As Denmark’s largest retail group, Salling Group operates at a scale where AI can make a practical difference in everyday work for customers, colleagues, stores, supply chains, and support functions. That gives our ML&AI team a broad and concrete playground for building solutions that move beyond prototypes and into real business impact.
The job
As AI Solution Architect, you will bridge business needs, AI development, data, platforms, and enterprise architecture. You will translate opportunities and sometimes ambiguous requirements into practical solution designs and help guide technical decisions from initial idea through implementation and operation.
You will join our ML&AI team, which develops AI/ML initiatives across brands and departments in Salling Group. You will work closely with business stakeholders, Product Owners, AI Developers, platform teams, security specialists, data specialists, and Enterprise Architects.
The role covers both established machine learning solutions and newer areas such as generative AI, AI agents, and AI-enabled process automation. You will be involved throughout the process, helping to ensure that solutions work not only in theory, but also in practice.
Primary tasks and responsibilities
- Translate business needs and opportunities into clear, actionable AI solution designs covering data, models, applications, integrations, deployment, and lifecycle.
- Evaluate solution options and communicate architectural choices and trade-offs, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, cost-conscious, maintainable, and compliant with data protection, responsible AI, governance, and regulatory requirements from the start.
- Guide implementation together with AI Developers and other technical specialists through architectural direction, practical sparring, and timely decision-making.
- Stay hands-on where it matters by building prototypes, proof-of-concept code, and architecture-critical components to validate designs, reduce risk, and set the technical direction.
- Define reusable patterns, guardrails, interfaces, and documentation, and support reliable operation through evaluation, observability, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
- Create alignment across business areas, development, data and platform teams, security, and enterprise architecture, and share knowledge that strengthens architectural thinking across the team.
We are looking for someone with...
- A relevant technical degree within Computer Science, Engineering, AI, Data Science, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience designing, developing, integrating, and operating software, data, AI, and machine learning solutions.
- The ability to understand business problems and translate them into coherent technical solutions while considering value, complexity, risk, cost, security, and maintainability.
- An understanding of modern software architecture, APIs, integrations, data flows, and cloud-based platforms, as well as the AI/ML lifecycle from development and deployment to evaluation, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders and clearly document solution designs and technical decisions.
- A structured approach to problems that may initially be ambiguous or insufficiently defined.
Areas where experience is an advantage
- Applied AI and generative AI: You have built agent-based, RAG, or AI-enabled workflow solutions and know how to evaluate whether they work in practice. Experience with platforms such as Azure AI Foundry, Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, LiteLLM, or similar is an advantage.
- Production and MLOps: You have taken AI/ML solutions from development into production using Python, FastAPI, Scikit-learn, or similar frameworks. You are familiar with CI/CD, containers, Kubernetes, Terraform, ArgoCD, observability, monitoring, logging, and model lifecycle management.
- Data and integration architecture: You have designed data and integration foundations for AI solutions using platforms such as Snowflake, SAP Datasphere, PostgreSQL, and API-based integrations. Experience with semantic models, knowledge graphs, vector search, and identity and access control is an advantage.
- Responsible and governed AI: You have built solutions where security, data protection, AI governance, regulatory requirements, explainability, risk management, and operational guardrails are part of the design from the start.
Please note: You do not need experience across all areas. We are especially interested in candidates who have helped move AI solutions beyond prototypes into reliable, integrated, observable, and maintainable systems.
While the position is targeted towards an AI Solution Architect profile, we recognise that strong candidates come from different backgrounds and career stages. For the right candidate, we may also consider matching the role at Associate AI Solution Architect level.
It will be a strong match if you...
- Are pragmatic and passionate about AI and focus on problems worth solving rather than technology for its own sake. You also like staying close enough to delivery to see whether a design works in practice.
- Ask constructive questions and are comfortable challenging assumptions, including your own, when a direction no longer holds.
- Take ownership while actively seeking input from colleagues and domain experts. You enjoy supporting others through mentoring, knowledge sharing, best practices, and informal leadership.
What we offer you
You will join an experienced and collaborative ML&AI team with room to shape solutions, influence technical direction, and continue developing your expertise across AI architecture, engineering, governance, and real-world retail use cases.
The role gives you the opportunity to influence how AI solutions are designed and implemented while staying close to both business needs and technical delivery.
Your daily workplace will be at the Salling Group headquarters in Brabrand, Aarhus.

At Salling Group, we value diversity and encourage everyone to apply regardless of background. We believe that different perspectives strengthen our team and contribute to innovative solutions.
To apply, please submit your resume and application outlining your relevant experience and why you are a strong fit for the role.
We assess applications on an ongoing basis and reserve the right to close the position when we have found the right candidate. For any inquiries, feel free to contact Miklas Strøm Kristoffersen, Senior Manager, AI, at miklas.stroem.kristoffersen@sallinggroup.com.
