Climate requirements and reporting for suppliers

Together to achieve our climate goals

At Salling Group, we are committed to net zero CO2-e emissions by 2050 and to reducing emissions throughout our value chain.

As 95% of our total climate footprint comes from our supply chain, we will only reach our net zero goal if we reduce emissions together.

Salling Group has therefore selected the largest suppliers measured by CO₂e emissions to set individual climate targets and report their progress to us.

However, we encourage all suppliers – regardless of size – to set their own climate targets and work actively to reduce their climate footprint.

Therefore, we work with our suppliers to:

  • set climate targets aligned with the Paris Agreement, and
  • report progress annually.

Salling Group's target is that 75% of our suppliers measured by emissions have set science-based targets by the end of 2027.

How to get started

  1. Map your emissions (scope 1, 2 and preferably 3)
  2. Set science-based climate targets
  3. Report your progress to Salling Group once a year

If you're a small or medium-sized company, you can use our Guide for SMEs.

Two Ways to Report - read more below

We know that our suppliers have different prerequisites. That's why we offer two ways to share climate data and goals with us:

1. Report via Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) – for the largest suppliers

We have selected our largest suppliers in terms of CO2e emissions to report via Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).

CDP is an international non-profit organization that collects and compares climate data across companies and industries.

Selected suppliers have received an invitation from Salling Group and CDP to report via CDP's online platform.

2. Direct documentation – for other suppliers

f you are not invited to CDP, you can instead send documentation or status of your climate work directly to us.

Send information to our email: sustainability@sallinggroup.com

You can send:

  • Documentation of your climate goals (e.g. link to your published climate goals, e.g. on your website or in a sustainability report) or
  • Status update (progress or plan for setting goals).

Both reporting channels count in our follow-up, as long as your information can be documented and is publicly available.

Suppliers can use SBTi's Target setting tool to check whether their climate targets are science aligned – particularly relevant for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Why we ask for documentation

By receiving documentation directly from suppliers who are not yet reporting via CDP, we can:

  • include more suppliers in our progress,
  • ensure documentation of objectives and status, and
  • support Salling Groups Supplier Engagement Target.
